Israel is a member of the EBU (mainly because the Arabic counterpart wouldnt let them join for arcane ethno-political reasons) Turkey is also a member of the EBU (even though only 4 percent of the Turkish landmass* is actually in Europe ) as are several countries in North Africa (who have opted not to bother with the song contest however)

* = Depends of course on what one considers to constitute the Turkish landmass given the ongoing territorial disputes with just about all of its neighbouring countries not to mention the Kurdish issue
