Mayo CoCo is preparing a new development plan for the County. The latest deadline is 4th August next. The current plan can be viewed at www.mayococo.ie (or see below). An Taisce's submission is highly critical of the current plan and the way it has systematically contravened Ireland's UN Conventions and EU Treaty obligations, as follows: Kyoto Protocol; Water framework Directives; European landscape Convention;;, 2004; Granada Convention for Architectural heritage,1985; National Spatial Strategy & Sustainable Land Use and Transport planning. An Taisce is also concerned about the way mayo CoCo has exercised its planning enforcement obligations and powers, particularly in regard to unauthorised quarries. Postings on the Castlebar BB have often been critical of elected Councillors and also planners. Here's a chance to do something about it. It will be pointless moaning about it when it's too late! The current plan can also be inspected at CoCo Area Offices in Castlebar, Ballina, Belmullet, Swinford, Newport, Claremorris, Ballinrobe, Westport and kiltimagh.
