Civilised? Who says we respect the law in the US? Even at a governmental level look at Gaunatanamo. The fact that torture is accepted by the government is a sure sign of civilised behaviour.

And even the most simplistic comparisons of murder the rate in the US v Ireland - the US rate is many multiples of that in Ireland. So more killings is more civilised? Pot calling kettle black methinks.
