A lot more people die due to lack of people calling to their door each year in rural (and ndeed urban) Ireland than are killed by marauding door to door 'salesmen'. Hardly a week goes by when there isn't a person found dead alone having died some time before - days or weeks even in some sad cases. These are the real vulnerable people who need more social interaction not less.
To make it illegal to call to another person's door unannounced is - simply put - an idiotic idea. Even more people would die due to loneliness and neglect because a law that make it illegal to walk into a person's drive would discourage all sorts of social interaction that might otherwise take place.
Tis more social interaction we need - especially in isolated areas - not less.
To make a law on the basis of one obviously deranged man's fear of the unknown is laughable. Especially when it is visitors who get shot in the back perhaps plus maybe beaten over the head multiple times and just to make sure shoved over a wall - all by 'elderly' and 'vulnerable' people? Not the basis for making new law at all, at all.
