If it is the case that the houses are visible from the lake is there much that we can (realistically) do to prevent it?

I am all for the development and growth of Castlebar but not at the cost of ruining our beautiful and natural amenities, there isn't many towns around that have a lake right on their doorstep where you can escape to without having to look at the every increasing urban jungle..

It will be a sad day if/when they start developing the lands surrounding our lake, and hopefully the people of Castlebar feel the same
