Being charged for repeat prescriptions? I'd say it depends on the doctor. It's like going to a butchers - you have to establish a relationship. When they get to know you they will treat you with respect. You will get good meat and you will not have to pay for a repeat prescription. Of course the chemist will charge you. I think the HSE rule is that you CAN automatically repeat a prescription at your chemist in any case regardless of the doctor. Castlebar ain't so bad. And if you have kids it's good for getting to know other parents and families through the schools. Lots of activities for kids and parents. You will never be a native but lots of things to do lots of people to get to know. Excellent countryside around walking hunting, fishing shooting, sailing, surfing, diving, hill walking and so on if you like that kind of thing .

And don't even start about the shops. Castlebar is indistinguishable from any European city with its brand name stores. We don't have a Tiffany's - well not yet at least but....
