Flynnboy Mayo/Castlebar is a more then welcoming place when you get to know the people, obviously it does take time for them to get to know you and vice versa. If you want to get to know the people you have to throw yourself into community activities and get yourself out there, with your love of music you should have no problems making friends in the community.
As for always been known as an outside (Blowin) with locals, you probably will always be known as the fella from France or where ever you originate from, but this would not be in a bad way. If a person, say his name is Dave, moved from Westport to Castlebar to live, he would always be seen as Dave from Westport.

I come from just outside Castlebar and I have neighbours from lots of different counties in Ireland and they more then feel part of the community and see it as their home now.

Best of luck
