You don't have to like his music but his lyrics capture an essence of Dublin that the Saw Doctors did at their peak for rural types like ourselves.

"She stepped out of a red Cortina . . ." classic, there's not too many artists out there that compose songs from the soul about the heartland they grew up in, dunno about you but when I hear the Green n Red of Mayo belted out at a football match the hairs stand up on the back of me neck.

I would say Damian Dempsey has lyrics equal in soul and wrenched from living in his heartland of Duba-lin city.
