A game that's been played before - mutilation of your favourite songs, poems hymns by running the original text through a translator back and forward between different langauges a few times and laughing at what comes out the other end. So for a start a suitably green Paddy's Day song - take the following text: ------------------- Hail, glorious St. Patrick, dear saint of our isle, On us thy poor children bestow a sweet smile; And now thou art high in the mansions above, On Erin's green valleys look down in thy love. (optional repeat) On Erin's green valleys, on Erin's green valleys, On Erin's green valleys look down in thy love. Hail, glorious St. Patrick, thy words were once strong Against Satan's wiles and a heretic throng; Not less is thy might where in Heaven thou art; Oh, come to our aid, in our battle take part! In a war against sin, in the fight for the faith, Dear Saint, may thy children resist to the death; May their strength be in meekness, in penance, and prayer, Their banner the Cross, which they glory to bear. Thy people, now exiles on many a shore, Shall love and revere thee till time be no more; And the fire thou hast kindled shall ever burn bright, Its warmth undiminished, undying its light. Ever bless and defend the sweet land of our birth, Where the shamrock still blooms as when thou wert on earth, And our hearts shall yet burn, wherever we roam, For God and St. Patrick, and our native home. -------------------- and run it through Google's translating tool a few times - English - German - English - French - Italian - English etc. and this is what it really means: ------------------ Rejoice, big St. Patrick's Day, the holy island, Who we are your children in poor a nice smile; And now they are high and mansions; The green valleys and will love you. (Optional Reprise) About green valleys Erin, Erin green valleys, The green valleys and will love you. Rejoice, big St. Patrick's Day, when your words were strong Trik against Satan heretics, and a nation; When the truth is, you are in the sky; Oh, come to the aid to our cause! In a war of sin, in the battle for the faith, Dear saint, your children, the death; What is zachtmoedigheid endurance, penance and prayer, The flag of the cross, the glory, to which they contribute. The people that you, and now there are many exiles of the shore, Can you love and adoration more time; And you have activated the fire burns, never, Despite the heat, the eternal light. Evergreen blessing to defend and on the mass of our new birth, As clover blossom, as if on the earth, And our heart burn, but where do the walking, For God and St. Patrick's Day, and our house built.
