well spent two weeks with a group of students from differing countries during June and July, and to be honest for everthing Castlebar has going for it, we were appalled at the litter on every street we went, even saw people throw rubbish out of their car windows on the main street, i must admit even in Calcutta where a few of the students live they stated they could not believe it how people disrespected their own Town. There were black bags full of rubbish down some of the alleyways that had been left open or maybe by animals, but the whole of the Main Street looked shabby, some of the shops you could see had tried to put a lick of paint on their properties and brighten them up, but the majority had not, not flowers or hanging baskets anywhere, not to mention the main town street full of traffic, just a suggestion but would it not help to pedestrian it? this is someting many of the major towns in India now do, but i noticed you have a tradition that we have had and still have but ours will take many years to put right, beggars outside main supermarkets with paper saying their chidren are in danger of death with cancer, and fit young foreign men harrassing people for money, somethings never change.
