Posted by Uncle Sam on September 29, 2008 at 17:09:30: In a week where we’ve seen capitalism in the U.S. become so greedy that it consumed itself only to be rescued by the State, perhaps the American citizen is getting a glimpse in to the real workings and dangers of their national ideology. Capitalism encourages risk taking in order to gain more capital. Sadly, if Wall Street’s gamble had paid off, Joe Taxpayer wouldn’t have seen a penny of the result but when the gamble sinks and sinks badly, JT is forced to prop up a grossly overrated economy. It must sicken U.S. politicians that capitalism, the great American vehicle to wealth and happiness, is flimsy and hyped and must be even more destroying to have to count on the ‘enemy’ and now hated crutch of State intervention to rescue their beloved system. No one could have missed the urgency in which U.S. politicians rallied to save their corporate friends but I somehow doubt we’ll be seeing the same State intervention in relation to homelessness, housing or health. American homelessness alone is estimated at as many as 3.5 million people in a given year. |
