Now that the McCarthy Report is in the public arena , it galls me to see the the frontline staff on duty 24/7 365 days of the year and night are now being targeted again. When the fat cats and the banks were being reckless with our country's economy we were still dealing with the sick and vulnerable and doing a job for dignity not profit. Last night I atteneded a meeting in the Clarion Hotel, Sligo where over 1500 staff in emergency, nursing, gardai, prison officers and defence services gathered to say we are not allowing the govt or any alternate govt. take away our pay, were some of us are srtuggling to pay mortages, rear our childrena nd try and work where we did not get handpouts or the pay increases we were told we were entitled too. So when the media and politicans are on about pay freezes and mortatorium on jobs look to them selves who dont have to deal with death and dying, comfort the ill and face the risk of injury on duty and who dont work 24/7. So as a community we need to stand together and fight for our rights before all dignity goes and we are back to the era of the 70's where the rights of nurses was not noticed. Cut the allowances of the public representatives, reduce the amount of TDs and seneators, dont cut the vital services of the vulnerable and the staff who work in theses areas. So its time that enough is enough and we protect what we have instead of bailing out bankers and the indiviuals whom crippled our economy. The celtic tiger is gone but hte lion of the front line service is roaring to protect the need
