There's nothing to stop the unemployed getting out and protesting too. Even in the public service here in Castlebar you can be certain that every office has lost people already to the ranks of the unemployed. All contract staff have been already fired or will be in the near future once their contract term runs out. There has also been a huge exodus of older staff taking early retirement. The remaining so-called 'permanent' staff have already had paycuts and will also have to cover the areas previously covered by those retired or laid off - well either that or the work won't be done so expect longer queues for treatments, delays in calling the Gardai, less special classes at school, longer planning delays, more potholes on yhour roads etc.
