Take the example of a 'hypothetical' public sector worker on maybe 26500- 515 or so a week, Take tax, income levies, PRSI, pension out of that- 430 per week Take the fact that he's working and paying his own rent (my 'hypothetical' employee is in rented accommodation- he couldn't afford a house, oh the laughs, eh?)- 340 per week, where a basic SWA tenant in his situation pays 24-30. You can take into account that my 'hypothetical' employee needs to get to work and back, and that public transport won't do that for him- I'm going to be ridiculously conservative and say that's a car loan of 40 a week and petrol/insurance/tax of 50- 250 per week. How are we doing so far? OK, hypothetical guy so far is taking home, as a single person in rented accommodation without kids, 250 per week. For 35 hours, and another 5 in the car. Oh, wait- I don't get a medical card! Better not get sick, LOL! Let's assume I don't need any medical treatment in a year. When you start to feel like I'm being unfair with our 'hypothetical' worker, just let me know. I'd hate for you to think he has it too f***ing soft. I'm going to leave out any other expenses he incurs in going to work, because people on SWA/UB need to eat a lunch and wear clothes too. I'm trying very hard to be fair here. Oh, he's gotta pay for his own fuel? That seems harsh, but mustn't complain, the country's in a bad way, right? So, hypothetical public sector worker is working 35 hours per week and commutes another 5, for a total difference of 250- (200-30 for rent) = 80. 40 hours for 80 euro difference. If I allow that on the dole hypothetical guy would need to walk to the post office and queue for a total of an hour for his 170 sepnding money, 39 hours for 80 euros difference. Now, reply to me, 'Marx', with your convincing argument that 'hypothetical' guy should have to listen to rubbish from you, and the likes of you, because he is lucky enough to have a job in the public sector. 'Hypothetical' guy would just love to hear from you.
