He was in opposition. He was on most of their economic fora and policy committees. He wasn't drafted in to dictate their financial or economic policy, and his time to contribute was never going to come in his first 19 weeks of Dáil time.

He's come across as a complete idiot from the whole affair. Let him go back to RTE and the job he promised he was resigning from.
