The old cinema was a beautiful art deco building. I' m pretty sure it was once a listed building i.e. of architectural merit which is more than can be said for most modern buildings. I think too that there are pages on this very site lamenting the destruction of one of the very, very few architectural gems in castlebar. Even the convent that wad razed late one night under cover of darkness was not a particularly interesting building. The so-called Celtic-Debt-Tiger has a lot to answer for.
