I dont agree with the above as any council (local government) projects are designed & maintained locally and as such provide employment and some of those projects often are carried out by preffered contractors again usually local.

Infrastructure is essential for FDI, thats foreign direct investment. We have had 0 FDI over the last 15 years and we are losing jobs on a daily basis. I think last year all the major employers for the west (Baxter, Allergan, Hollister etc) said that infrastructure was No1 to them IF they are to remain in the west. SO when I see wastage of public money on this kind of project, it just doesn't make sence to me at all. Can nobody see the writing on the wall? I'd hate to see what would happen if all the places closed in the coming years because of poor policy acted on today by our elected officals! Shocking!
