Hi my name is John, I started the campaign on my own. Yes local councilors have helped and helped greatly as have many other people. Foroige and the youth officor for mayo V.E.C. This is badly needed for this town. There is not enough variety of sports in this town the skate park would be a massive benefit to local youth. The reason there is very little skaters in this town is because there is no facilities for skaters. My own nephew has said of his friends in school that they want to learn to skate. This gives kids and adults something to do with there evenings. Id advise any naysayers to go and visit a skate park and see the joy they give people. Skate boarding, bmxing and roller blading are strenuous exercises good for mental and physical health. They give people a chance to get out and enjoy their sport,mingle with new friends. Practice new tricks , have a sense of achievement and belonging. These are very rewarding sports, there are competitions being run all over Ireland in different venues, this weekend there is an event taking place in the north and in Dublin.

Why should local people have to go and travel to different towns to use a skate park. I was in Galway yesterday using one of their 3 skate parks!! I was in Dublin a couple of weekends ago using bushy park one of there many skate parks(up to ten skate parks there)i was in graystones that same weekend using there skate park.
Local skaters have to go to Athlone and many other places to use skate parks.
Why wait any longer we have waited long enough i have skated since i was a child as have many other people i grew up with its about time we have these facilities!!
Skate boarding is the 3rd biggest sport in America ahead of baseball!!
