I don't live in Ireland now, but I believe the civil service will not be working on Good Friday.

However, I do get annoyed at people pointing at current and past failings of the Catholic Church to push an agenda against the Catholic Church.

We (and I use the collective noun here - I pay taxes in Ireland despite not living there), are governed by a constitution, voted and confirmed by the public.

A few snippets of the constitution:

Section 44 gives reference to the special position of the Holy Catholic Apostolic and Roman Church which was removed in the 80's or 70's.

But still in the constitution is the
"The State acknowledges that the homage of public worship is due to Almighty God. It shall hold His Name in reverence, and shall respect and honour religion"

Although not living in Ireland at the moment, even in these tough times for the Catholic Church, I am not sure that this reference would be removed.

The majority religion is Roman Catholic - 85% declared Catholism as their faith at the last census.
