I acknowledge that hard decisions have to be made and there has been some waste in the civil service (look at past comments from me would highlight that).

But, a country and a democracy I don't think can operate without local government of some sort, and although I would classify myself as right wing economically, I would be the first to acknowledge that local government has an important role to play in modern society.

You speak of "these top earners" and therefore I am not sure whether you are referring to the management layer or all of the staff.

But "be gone with them, ash yourself what addition are they to us" - it is frightening to think what would happen society and broader community if there was no council at all.

By all means rationalise it, and question what services are required but no services at all????
