I doubt that RTE would take a press release that came from without the university? Press releases come from the organisation with verifiable credentials, embargo times and detailed contact information.
By definition almost anyone within the university would be a graduate - but that doesn't explain where the 'Only Five Star University' in the country epitaph came from.
And whatever about a lazy journalist issuing a press release from UCC with an embargo and all it doesn't explain why it was read out on RTE at 7am this morning.
Maybe five star is way lower than a lone star university such as Harvard?
The 'first five-star universty' press release is still on the ucc.ie website:
ďBecoming Irelandís first five star university and improving UCCís world-ranking position by 205 places in the last six years is an outstanding achievement. It is a credit to the University as a whole, and to the university academic community in particular, that we have made such a significant improvement in the world rankings. It takes hard work and dedication on the part of the entire UCC staff to ensure that the University continues to have such a high international profile, one consistent with the standards we set for ourselves and with our ambition always to excel,Ē Dr Murphy said.
The student body at University College Cork now totals almost 20,000 and some 2,800 overseas students are on campus.
Doh! ' the unique status of becoming Irelandís first five star university '
Have they named five stars in their astronomy section? Can they count? Are they using boolean algebra to claim 5 stars - aldebraun, alpha centauri, betelgeuse, sol, sirius??
