Anyone who has travelled through the country or indeed in England knows that roundabouts are marked differently to suit the flow of traffic. If all roundabouts were to have identical lane markings it would fir one add to our greenhouse gas footprint due simply to longer queues at junctions. Pick any reasonable size town and photograph the lane markings and you will find that Castlebar is pretty much standard - each major roundabout is customised to suit the flow of traffic Dublin, Ennis, Limerick, Killarney, Cork. The rules of the road tell you to obey the markings on the road.
