on 14th Dec 1911 Roald Admunsen and his Norwegan polar party arrived at the Geographic South pole five weeks ahead of their British rivals led by Robert F Scott who were to ultimately perish on the return journey. It is now generally accepted that Admunsens adoption of the survival techniques of the Inuit people among whom he lived for some time gave him a distinct advantage on his expedition as opposed to the somewhat arrogant attitude of The Scott expedition which shunned, indeed belittled the experience of the native people's of the Polar region in the belief that British resolve and a stuff upper lip would see them through...
