For many of us from Eastern Europe Christmas Eve is a fast day, so we have fish supper with a table laid with an extra place for a stranger that may call, under the crisp white table cloth straw is placed to remind us of the manger then when you see the first star in the sky the suppr is served with special breads. Then on day many follow Irish traditions of turkey or a red meat and Chritmas pudding or a very rich cake, our children will have recived their presents on St Nicolas day 19th December and many families are encouraged to send anonymous gifts to charties or people in need in honour of St Nickolas
