That's their usual excuse not to do anything.
I have seen this with multiple clients who report internet problems. The eircom helpdesk does a "check" on the line and says they can find nothing wrong- They see a DSL (broadband) signal active on the line. But when the client eventually calls out an engineer, they do in fact find something that needs to be adjusted on the line.
Often the gain is too low and this can result in very low bandwidth or no DSL service at all.
Recently a client of mine had dampness in the lines due to water ingress in the local eircom junction box and this was enough to affect their broadband and phone service. I usually see this after heavy rain and storms so if I were you I would check this further with eircom. An internal junction box may not solve your problem.
