Kilcoyne looking for airport name change, again

Posted by James R on January 13, 2012 at 13:12:49:

Michael Kilcoyne at it again, second time he has put a motion for the airport name change at a council meeting even though they have no control over it. Have they nothing better for doing in Mayo CoCo given all the problems facing us?

The airport was rebranded to make the name relevant to the European and UK market who don't give a hoot who built an airport, or what church its near, just how they can access the West of Ireland region easily. The re-brand has in my opinion played a large role in the major turn around at the airport in recent years helping to market and position the airport as the key gateway to the west, while also shaking off the "foggy boggy cute hoor Mayo regional" image nationally.

The airport has had more name changes than Prince, counsellors should focus on the future not the past and leave one of the few successful enterprise in the region alone or it will be back to the bad old old days at the airport pre 2000 very quickly.
