Agricultural land at between €7k amd €10k per acre does not provide income in line with those valuations.
But should you value an asset that has no depreciation to that of a building or machinery in a factory that depreciates over time. Agricultural land is a unique asset in my view and shouldn't be valued or viewed in such a way.
In relation to subsidies etc - I totally agree. But this is another issue been decided at not just EU level but globally as Brazil, US and Europe all try to protect their agricultural industries for "national security" and to subsidise the cost of food. The subsidies, by definition reduce the cost of production and therefore the cost to the consumer.
But this brings us to another, not totally unrelated topic - the price of eggs - Just look at the difference (and posters on the Nostagia Board will be better placed to comment than I) but the sale of a dozen eggs a week kept many a country dweller going. Now you can get it for less than €5
