Besides . . . how much private property are the public bodies renting at the moment and at what rates (peak property boom rental numbers, long leases)?
Cedar House out at Moneen, houses some council workers as does various other buildings around the town that are not publicly owned buildings.
I say restore the historical buildings, make them fit for use as modern offices internally without drastically affecting the fabric of the building and then you've a win-win on your hands, you've preserved the historical building and acquired more office and save on rent elsewhere.
The knock on for other businesses in the town is that they are no longer competing with public bodies for modern office space in prime locations and should be able to get more competitive rates from the landlords.
