Vehicles and pedestrians just don't mix.

I think the refurbishment has been great but we shoulda gone the whole hog and pedestrianised the area properly (remember vehicular access is maintained for the Grafton, Henry, Shop St's - cash & goods deliveries and collection still occur but within reason).

The day we sealed off the streets cemented this in my mind, we need to do it on a more regular basis to iron out the kinks before committing to a full time pedestrianisation project but I still look forward to the day when I can sit outside Mick Byrne's and enjoy a pint of Guinness alfresco, with the fresh newspaper from alas not Wynne's / Shaney Macs on the wrought iron table beside me. I'll flex my feet in the shoes I've bought from Hynes's and I'll adjust me glasses (from the opticians on Main Street), open an extra button on me Mayo All-Ireland Winners polo shirt (from the Stan's Mayo shop) and enjoy the afternoon sunshine.

We've come a long way since 2005 . . . here's to achieving the dream by 2020!
