the fact of the matter is, a 25m pool would not attract business to the area, as we already have a 25m pool in Castlebar, There is nothing note worthy about a 25m pool. Every good hotel has a 25 metre pool. so why would people choose a town pool over a hotel pool?

The fact of the matter is, a 50 metre pool is the olympic standard. it is also where all galas and other meets take place. UL pool also host polo and kayaking events in their pool. Attracting business from near and far. I believe cork couldnt justify a 50 m pool because of their close prox. to limerick.
The additional cost of building the facility is a worry, however this is only one aspect of a successful business plane. Its not as if entrance to the pool would be free? or is it that your are planning for this business to be unsuccessful and so u can place the cost on the rate payers. As a Cllr, it is your duty to come up with a successful business plan for this facility, be it 25m or 50m without even CONSIDERING increasing rates.
50 m pool will attract visitors and competitors from all over connaught and perhaps even further afield.
A 25m pool would only attract local business.

Please feel free to debate these points, not the writer.
