I am in favour of pedestrianising Main Street, but to do it right is the main think, not half baked. The footpaths now there are wider than the road in places the crossings I am told are not in fact pedestrian crossings but "courtesy " crossings, and the bumps are troublesome to say the least. Bu then again what odds, sure its the ratepayers who have to pay.
And while I'm at it, why on earth they had to extend the Mall, is beyond me. The money wasted must be quite substantial and the end result is neither appealing nor practical. The turn from Ellison Street to the Mall is not practical, the turn from Gavins corner to the council offices is out of kilter from a measurement viewpoint and probably the camber is wrong too. Just watch the traffic trying to negotiate towards Kays beauty salon and its painful. The white line there is not in the centre of the road....practicality gone out the window. Does nobody think anymore?
