I think the planned ideas for this year in honour of the 1798 rebellion are great but I think to fully honour General Humbert it would be great if a statue was made of him to place in the town. A model of Humbert would like great in the town as well. One similar to the de la salle one on church street but maybe bigger. I think it would be great placed on the mall or near one of his battle sites but it would stand out well on the mall. It think it should be tall enough maybe 15 or 20 feet? I know it would be expensive but would look fantastic and would be a great honor to one of the most famous people in Castlebars history. Showing a tall statue of Humbert on a square base in a victorious confident stance. It would look amazing. Bronze ? Copper? Marble? Parts of it in gold colored metal? You could also make a very tall one but might need investment from individuals. But if done right it could be amazing and a great tourist attraction and its about time Humbert as an individual was honored properly.
