I see in the Connaught Telegraph that Michael Kilcoyne is putting forward a motion on Thursday night calling on the council to condemn a proposal by the Minister for the Environment to scrap town councils. I assume he will get full support on the night and if I was getting the expenses that town councillors get I may be tempted to agree with him. I fully support the Minister - it is time to get rid of this expensive talking shop. In the past councillors were voluntary and not paid - maybe the town should have a Mayor but it should be on a voluntary basis not someone on a gravy train.
