save our mental health services in mayo

Posted by townie girl on June 08, 2013 at 12:58:41:

I thought if I siad a comment it may inform people of the threats to services at the moment and its accurate. Mayo mental health services have been decimated over the past year especially with the nursing staff levels cut to less than 110 from 246.5 yet the service is still intact depsite the struggle. The recent announcement of 15 new jobs in mnetal health have been only been in social work, occupational therapy and psychology and no new nurse recruited. Last friday the service let go the 10 temp nurses whom have been employed since qualified and now are going to use agency which is dounle the4 cost and overtime instaed of keeping these nurse whom are cheaper to employ but have the advantage of knowing the staff. So can we please look at how we can retain sertvices instead of closing the services which have happened in swinford, ballina and in castlebar with downgrading of services and longer waiitng times for those whom are the most vulnerable and need to have support like that given to the sacred heart hospital.
