I guess nobody can speak of knowing what everyones expectations were because every potential decision a government may have to make are not put in front of us at election time.
We as an electorate have a wonderful knack of abdicating ourselves of any responsibility for the decisions of the politicians we elected to make those same decisions. Its absolutely fascinating how few people I've met that will admit to voting FF yet we as an electorate elected them 3 times in a row.
Everyone acts outraged when decisions are made they don't agree with claiming they didn't vote for that but every democratic system the world over requires that we allow the people we elect, make those decisions.
FG never said they would default and that is the only single thing that would substantially change the policies this government could follow. Everyone knows FG are center right so would favour cuts over tax rises, everyone knows Labour are left of center so would favour taxes. Everyone knows FG had the majority of seats so a two thirds cuts, one third tax rise was always the likely outcome.
This Seanad debate is a purely symbolic in nature and while a bit embarrassing for Enda makes little material difference to the state of our country.
