Facts: (1) Ukraine is an independent country and this was approved by the ethnic Russians in the Ukraine at the time of independence. (2) 45% of people in Crimean part of the Ukraine are not of Russian origin. (3) The people of the Ukraine have voted with their feet not to be part of Greater Russia. (4) Under the UN and other international treaties one country may not invade another country, to do so is an act of war. (4) There is no freedom of expression in Russia, the press has been gagged or closed down as have independent TV and radio stations. (5) There is no threat to the ethnic Russian Ukranians but anyone who is corrupt will face the rigour of the law as defined in the UN charter and implemented in the new Ukranian system. (6) There are always people who support a dictatorship even, as with Putin, there is a degree of corruption (examine the recent building contracts for the winter Olympics and the building of expensive Dachas for the ruling elite of Russia in Sochi). (7) Ukraine has now joined Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania who got out of the repressive yolk of the Russian system as soon as they could. (8) In Putin's city of St Petersburg the building corruption forced people out of the city to make way for oligarch sponsored construction - there is a saying in that city "Put the old grannies out to the dachas". (9) Putin is a remnant of the discredited and murderous Stalinist / KGB system (he was the greatest mass murderer in history). (10) The degree of corruption, loss of freedom of expression, Xenophobia and Homophobia in Russia has no place in the modern world where all people are equal and free from intolerance. Ukraine is not Russia, it is an independent country in transition away from the repressive and unequal Russian system and joining the freedom of the Western Civilisation and we welcome them.
