Just contemplating Apple's announcement of a new green field facility outside Athenry this morning and speculating how the likes of Castlebar missed out on attracting such an investment when one considers the similarities ie. Not within a large urban centre, >150km from Dublin, similar population density, availability of sufficiently large greenfield site.
The only conclusion I can come to is that apart from the attraction of new facilities proximity to the M6 (and also eventually the m18) and ease of access to Galway City and Shannon, there is little else to differentiate it from somewhere like Castlebar. So the only logical conclusion on can make is that the authorities have a deep seated blind spot with regard to lobbying for such facilities for Mayo. Wonder how Enda's new PR guru could spin that? Bit ironic that he's called (Derry)donnell!
