After been away from the town for years, I found myself last Saturday up in the Cemetery on the Newport Road. I was shocked to see the resting place of a very well known local man who died about ten years ago. He is buried in what one would call a 'paupers grave' - no wall around the grave and a very small stone tablet as a headstone with just his name on it. I won't name this man but suffice to say, if I said he was legendary in sporting administrative circles, a lot of people would know him. He never married and was comfortably well off when he passed so it's disappointing to see the state of his final resting place. The reason I write this is hopefully, someone from the sporting code or organisation he was involved with all his life, will take on the challenge to see that his final resting place is more fitting and respectful for all the decades of service that he gave.
