Im not convinced of the need of a referendum on same sex marriage on the grounds that it could (and should) have been introduced without such a referendum.
As for the presidency they could raise the age to 99 for all I care or better still abolish the office entirely.
A better idea for a referendum would be on ripping up our rather quaint and outdated constitution entirely. and starting again. For all its flaws America's constitution has only been amended twenty seven times since 1787 which considering that it is one of the earliest historical examples of such a document is a pretty good reflection on its authors.
Our own version which was only adopted in 1938 has had thirty five amendments already and quite frankly could do with a lot more but a complete return to the drawing board would probably be a better proposition at this stage.
