My gripe is that there has been and still are way too many professional dealers in the price of land and property - aka 'auctioneers' who are directly involved as elected councillors in our local authorities. On the one hand they effectively set the price of land around the county by zoning in development plans and other planning decisions. On the other hand they are actively involved in profiting on the sale of property and land - over which they have an influence via the development plan.
These auctioneer politicians are involved in a huge conflict of interest by not recusing themselves from the planning committees involved in county or local development plans involving anything to do with land or property.
At one stage - right here in Rio de Janeiro - we had 13 of 31 county councillors who just happened to be "auctioneers" or developers or related to same. What are the odds - 13 of 31 belonging to the same profession? Hmmmm...
So give us a break when an auctioneer starts objecting to a planning decision.
