There is so much mis-information floating around about this ... time to dispel some of those myths. Marsh House is a temporary location for a maximum of 4 years and 9 months (that's the lease) so that the school can get established. A small number of children will be starting ... Within a couple of years, the school will, no doubt, outgrow the building anyway. At present, the building is empty - this is a win-win situation for everyone - the Department of Education will invest money in the building, it will be maintained and the council will get a rent of 20,000 euro per year and most importantly - Educate Together finally get to open their doors in Castlebar town. This is so badly needed and has been put on hold now for too long. Parents need and deserve choice for their childrens' education in Castlebar - currently not an option even though research/demographics has clearly shown that parents want an alternative to a schools under catholic patronage. Unfortunately, small-mindedness and intolerance raises its ugly head yet again ... doing everything possible to block the establishment of an Education Together School in Castlebar ... Thankfully an alternative temporary location is being sought for the few months until An Board Pleanala makes their judgement and Marsh House can be used.
