Please give us a few examples of where customers are being "gouged" on price by local retailers, as you say. I have great admiration for local retailers trying to create employment and make a living for themselves and their families. Local retailers have to contend with rates, employment laws, insurance, VAT, PRSI,and the many rules and regulations pertaining to their specific business. In the unfortunate situation where a business goes under, the employees qualify for state assistance where the employer does not. On top of all that, if we support local retailers more, much more of that money goes back into circulation in the local community. Thank you to local retailers who constantly support through sponsorship and other means, the many clubs and charitable organisations in Castlebar. I hope local retailers continue to be profitable so that they can employ more people, provide great service to their customers and the local community. I urge people to support their local retailers and those who work their.
