We have www.mgh.ie running on the new server for the past three weeks as a test - and it has been rock solid. This site has direct ftp access and the site is maintained directly by the hospital. We will shortly also be offering direct ftp services to a number of clubs with existing web sites.
Following the e-commerce conference last week there have been numerous enquiries regarding web hosting on the new system and shortly a number of new domains will be hosted here.
The Castlebar e-mail server is also running in test mode. Shortly we will be offering email addresses e.g. firstname.lastname@example.org - these will be somewhat similar to yahoo or hotmail in that they can be checked over the web from any computer. These addresses can also pull e-mail from other servers. There will be a small charge for this service.
We will be transferring the full www.castlebar.ie early next week. At the same time we are building the new castlebar site from the ground up using a state-of-the-art e-commerce and personalisation system. The basic software is the same as that used by Dell and Barnes&Noble backed up by a heavy duty database server.
We are also commissioning our realserver system which will start off by webcasting CRCFM. So download realplayer and get familiar with it if you haven't previously installed it - we have lots of realaudio links off the main page - RTE news etc. We also have made some digital recordings, e.g. at the Blues Festival and interviews with walkers at the 4-Days Walks earlier in the year, for example.
Once the audio system is fully tested we will introduce video material - specially shot in Castlebar using a broadcast quality digital system.
The whole system has to knit together and run reliably so we are putting a bit of effort into the testing before we go live.
Thanks to the eircom Information Age Prize the system is state-of-the-art in terms of hardware and software so it offers great potential.
