I agree, I have seen them in stand-up and some
of it is quite good. On DFTG it is so obvious that
the everything has been passed through the RTE
filter and must conform to the RTE, Dublin 4
interpretation of Ireland and what the Irish should
find funny. It's frustrating when you realise the
possibilities that exist.
When will they learn? The best Irish comedians are
finding their outlet in Britain where they present
a brand of humour that is uniquely Irish but has
mass appeal. Most of these comedians would love to
work in Ireland, I'm sure, but they can't because
there is no place for them in the national media.
Incidentally, I noticed that Dylan Moran has a second series of
his sit-com starting on BBC2. I thought the first
one was pretty good, a little off-beat though. I
forget the name, "How do you want me" or something like that.
