I don't think all the blame for what happened shold be laid at the door of Bertie Ahern.
Everyone knew Haughey was dodgey, his cabinet knew, the press knew, even those all knowing dogs in the street knew. However, no one was prepared to do anything about it. And yes, that includes the current Taoiseach. It also includes the Fianna Fail party, and those individuals who voted for this party.
That in my estimation is at least 50% of the adult population of this country.
At the end of the day, we voted these people into power, and we should shoulder some of the blame.
However, what is their to stop this sort of thing happening again. ? Other than the fear of another Tribunal, possibly 20 years down the road, their is no real deterrant to this type of behaviour.
