So if they were so concerned about safety, why did they proceed to block tracks when trains were running. Surely more chance of an accident if the line is blocked. I don't believe their claims that this is about safety. This dispute was about recognition which was dealt with in the High Court. They are not a recognised Union and are not prepared to accept the decision of the courts and abide by the law.
If Iarnrod Eireann or for that matter the government were concerned about safety and overcrowding on trains, how come that the full "uncensored" version of the safety report prepared by an Independent English company has never been released. And why do the fire officers not board overcrowded trains and stop them from leaving until an extra train has been scheduled. They stop nightclubs from taking too many people, why can't they perform this function with regards to the train service as well.
Brendan Ogle is a very slick media performer but the new working hours while they may be up to 9 hours in a day, they only actually involve being at the controls of a train for two periods of up to 3.5 hours. Has anyone driven a car to Dublin and back in one day? How many of you feel that is an unacceptable safety risk. This dispute was totally unnecessary and I am glad that the strike has been a failure. It could and would not happen in a privately run service!
