Muirsín, I think the two walls you showed may be the walls of what was supposed to be the Cong Canal - built in the 1800s but never caulked because the railways took off putting canal barges out of business so that the Cong Canal was no longer a viable proposition. Further back towards Lough Mask there should be water in it at this time of the year but in the summer it runs dry. The Fisheries Board rescue trout from it every spring as the wter drains away.
