Canada has a Green party and there is, nationally,
a large environmental constituency. The ratio of
sovereignist to non-sovereignist in Quebec is
probably 50/50 based on the last referendum. Not all
Quebecers are sovereignists in outlook - the Prime
Minister is a Quebecer. Even if Quebec, or
British Colubia or Alberta were to separate I doubt
if the remaining provinces would choose to joint
the United States. There are large Francophone
communities outside of Quebec - in Nova Scotia
and New Brunswick (probably dominantly Acadian
in origin), and in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and parts
of Alberta there are large French speaking
populations (French and Metis). The Acadians suffered
persecution by the British after their victory in
the Maritimes. Many fled to Lousiana, then French
territory, where they became known as Cajuns.Even
British Columbia has French speaking communities.
Although difficult to always realize in practice,
Canada recognizes the French and English as two
founding nations (the Aboriginals do not agree) and both French and English are
the official languages of Canada.
