I gladly note that those of us in the shadow of the castlebar deflector aerial can now, once again, see bbc1 and channel 4 in the shape in which it is broadcast.
up until now the 16:9 image was clipped locally to 4:3, neatly cutting off the edges of all programmes so that movies were unwatchable and titles where unreadible.
will it now stay this way or is it a glitch?
This means that people with 'normal' shaped tellys will today see a black band on top and bottom of their pictures where, before, the image was filling the screen. Hopefully the consolation is that they are now seeing the whole picture rather than a locally-sawn-off version.
I, for one, hope it stays. I've been trying to get it fixed since it first happened. Thanks to the deflector people for doing this - please leave it that way.
