You can't even get married in a Catholic church without proving you were christened in one, this goes for communion and confirmation. So I hardly think they (Catholic Hierarchy) would allow anybody become a Pope if they weren't at least:
(a) Catholic
(b) A Man
(c) A Priest/Cardinal
(d) Ancient
